Another Organic Herbal Remedy

by Vincent Polisi on November 2, 2009

As many of you know who routinely read our posts, Organic Renaissance was created to honor the rebirth or “renaissance” of organics. At one time, not that long ago, everything was organic and there was no need for discernment between organic, all natural, natural and just plain junk.

In recent years, with the popularity of stores like Whole Foods, organics have indeed seen an amazing rebirth. Unfortunately, thanks to modern medicine and multi-billion dollar advertising machine run by Big Pharma, the true healing qualities of herbal remedies are still a mystery to hundreds of millions of Americans (and billions throughout the rest of the world). herbal remedy

I have to be honest, though always interested in health, years ago when herbal home remedies and natural herbal remedies were first mentioned to me, I thought they sounded more like an old wives tale than an actual herbal remedy.

My introduction to being a true believer in alternative medicine and natural herbal remedies initially came from watching Wendy suffer for years with a golf ball sized knot on her left trapezius muscle. It was hard and we were initially concerned that it was a tumor of some kind. So, we did what brainwashed Americans do and started the rounds at the “cut it and drug it” Western medicine doctors. I watched her suffer through multiple MRIs and numerous doctor visits. She suffered with the daily pain similar to a pinched nerve that would keep her up at night.

Modern medicines conclusion: uh, we don’t know it is but here’s a prescription for a pain killer.

Then, one day, I had finally had enough and I remember telling her, I know everyone says chiropractors are quacks with all of that natural healing and natural herbal remedy stuff, but nothing else is working and we might as well give it a try.

So, I got a recommendation to a chiropractor from a colleague, set the appointment and made sure that we could get the necessary x-rays done and get her adjusted that day. And the rest, as they say, is history. She got immediate relief on the first visit and the golf ball started to dissipate. With a series of spinal alignments over the next few weeks, it was totally gone.

Seeing this amazing change in her after the thousands of dollars that had been spent on “doctors” with no results opened up my mind. During our chiropractic visits, our chiropractor began to suggest alternative treatments for a variety of other things and though you will laugh when you hear this, also adjusted my 12 year old Rottweiler who was suffering from hip dysplasia.

When Kevin Trudeau’s book, “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About”, came out, I bought it and read it to see if he was another crackpot selling snake oil or if there was legitimacy to what he was advocating. In his book, to prove to his readers that what he is saying about all of the excitotoxins and chemicals in non-organic food, he asks that you do one simple test: eat nothing but organic food for one week, then go out to your favorite restaurant and have a meal. He indicates that doing so will make you violently sick to your stomach because your body has had the opportunity over the prior week to purge itself of many of the chemicals and toxins. He further indicates that the reason you don’t get sick every day while eating food laden with chemicals and toxins is because your body has become accustomed to them.

So, I said, “Kevin, I will put your theory to the test.”, and with that, Wendy and I purchased and ate nothing but organic food for the next week. At the end of the week, we went out to a restaurant we frequented and had lunch. Before getting back to the house that afternoon, we were both nauseous with headaches and our hearts were racing. These symptoms are by-products of the chemicals and MSG (excitotoxins) that most of the non-organic food supply is laden with.

And with that, I was sold. I couldn’t believe how violently ill we both got after purging our body of the chemicals for one week. I advise anyone who thinks that organics are nonsense to do the same test. We have had friends do it with the exact same results.

So, with that, I began to explore other natural herbal remedies. I came to find out that I had been unknowingly growing a natural herbal remedy in my own home for years. It was the aloe vera plant. What I didn’t realize was the actual definition of an herb. Wikipedia defines an herb as, “a plant that is valued for flavor, scent, or other qualities. Herbs are used in cooking, as medicines, and for spiritual purposes.”. All this time, I thought aloe vera was a plant and that oregano was an herb.

One of the very best natural herbal remedies known to man is organic non-pasteurized raw honey. While perhaps it can be argued that honey isn’t technically an herb by definition, it can certainly be argued that an herb is the source. Nonetheless, honey in its purest form is one of the best natural herbal remedies the planet has ever seen. The list of ailments and injuries that raw honey cures is beyond belief. It aids in reducing scarring after a wound, aids in digestion, is one of the best herbal remedies for anxiety (like kava kava), kills ringworm, you name it.

Yes, believe it or not, raw honey actually kills ringworm. Here’s another western medicine versus chiropractor natural herbal remedy story for you. When he was almost two, one of my sons developed ringworm on the back of his leg from playing outside. After literally spending more than a hundred dollars on topical application after topical application at the local pharmacy, the only result we got was that the ringworm actually spread. In discussing this with our chiropractor, he suggested covering it with raw organic non-pasteurized honey and using that instead of the over the counter poisons. So, we did. The results were beyond belief. The ringworm was completely gone in a few days after only a few applications.

So, now, whenever any of our family is sick (which fortunately is rare) or suffering from any ailment (which fortunately is also rare), the first thing we do is online research to determine what organic natural herbal remedy we can utilize instead of spending large sums of money on worthless doctor visits and Big Pharma poisons.

Here’s another great natural herbal remedy I actually learned about this year: I have suffered numerous times in my life with “pink eye” or viral conjunctivitis. Typically it occurs when a nasty house fly or fruit fly flies directly into my eye and transfers all manner of infection. In year’s past when this has happened, the only thing I knew to do was go to the eye doctor where I got to spend $150 for him to tell me what I already knew and prescribe eye drops, which meant even more wasted time going to the pharmacy. Aaaaaarghhh!!! Few things I hate worse than wasting time and money.

So, when it happened earlier this year, I thought, there has to be a natural herbal remedy for this that I can use successfully and avoid the eye doctor, pharmacy and expense. Sure enough, a quick Google Search let me to an eye wash comprised of filtered water and apple cider vinegar with the enzymes still in it (called “the mother”). I thought to myself, another great test. Let’s see if this works. Sure enough, after only two days, pink eye gone!

Next time, before you go waste money on a doctor and Big Pharma, see if there is a natural herbal remedy that will work.
