By breathing in oxygen, we create what is known as free radicals. The contamination in the air also augments this occurrence. Free radicals are a chemical that interacts with the molecules in our body. The cells in our body are connected with electronic bonds. These bonds are arranged in pairs of electrons so they balance each other out. A free radical is unbalanced and steals one of the electrons to balance itself. This turns the affected molecule into a free radical and it goes looking for a way to balance itself. This sets up a terrific chain reaction that can cause all sorts of damage to our cells.
It is interesting but physical exercise compounds the problem. By exerting ourselves physically, we breathe in more oxygen which creates more free radicals. This phenomenon causes the free radicals to increase sometimes twenty-fold and our bodies internal defenses cannot cope.
The body has a method to fight this process. Antioxidants serve to stop this chain reaction from continuing. If we do not have enough antioxidants in our body to combat the occurrences, then the process goes unhampered. There are all sorts of possible diseases and skin reaction that can result from this. Some of these are Alzheimers disease, heart disease, memory loss, cancer and Parkinsons disease.
There are dozens of antioxidants that we can get. Most of them are available in Vitamins A, vitamin C and vitamin E. The eating of proper fruits, vegatables, and interesting enough dark chocolate are foods we can eat to obtain antioxidants.
We should do everything we can to get the antioxidants through natural nutrition however, with our current lifestyles and the foods we eat, we just cannot get enough antioxidants that are needed. Supplemental vitamins should be taken to help us get all of the antioxidants we really need. For example, to get all the vitamin C, we need we would have to drink 11 glasses of orange juice every day.
