It is something that most women will face and not matter what they do, they can’t seem to get rid of it. I’m talking about cellulite.
Myths and miss-truths abound when talking about curing the cellulite condition. Most of the information is contradictory and is really aimed at getting you to buy a product which has minimal chance of working. The aim of this article is to give you some straight facts about cellulite so that you know what is possible and what is not, when it comes to cellulite removal.
Fact One: Cellulite is not caused by fat
It is a common misconception that fat is the root cause of cellulite. While fat does have a role to play, it isn’t as large as you may think.
Beneath the skin, there is a layer of fat with a network of fibrous bands that attach the fat to the skin and helps keep the fat cells together. When you age or live an unhealthy lifestyle, these bands tend to harden and become tight. Because they are linked to the skin, the bands bring the skin down causing the bumps and lumps of cellulite.
This is why skinny women can get cellulite. While they may have very little fat on the body, it is actually the bands pulling on the skin that causes the condition – not the fat. Excess fat make the cellulite worse because it gets pushed together by the bands but it certainty isn’t the central cause.
It is also another reason why many surgery for cellulite procedures fail. Most of these treatments focus on fat removal (eg. liposuction) and do not directly address the real cause.
Fact Two: Exercise is one of the best treatments
One of the most effective cellulite treatments is exercise. And yet, this exercise shouldn’t focus solely on losing weight through cardio exercise. Instead, a large proportion of your time should be focused on building lean muscle mass. Lean muscle gives you legs and butt shape, and because it stretches the skin, it gives the skin a smooth look and feel.
Fact Three: Cellulite gets worse as you age
Cellulite begins to form as soon as oestrogen is released into the body during puberty. As women get older, they tend to be less active and eat a poorer diet. These factors all lead to an increase in the cellulite condition.
