An unavoidable fact in the life of most teenagers is the existence of, and annoying caused by, pimples. No matter how many times you wash your face, the annoying things just keep coming back; even once you get rid of them, they leave behind a face flushed with acne redness to remember them by.
Fortunately, many of the cures for acne also work on acne redness, although not always as quickly as we would like! Acne redness often sticks around for up to three months after the acne infection has been vanquished…at which point another pimple typically shows up. So annoying!
Fortunately, there are ways to speed up the healing process. Some are expensive treatments you buy at the store, but others can be done with typical household items you likely have in your own kitchen.
One simple remedy is garlic. Grab a garlic glove from the fridge and cut it in half, then rub it against your face. You should probably wash your face first, though. And don’t eat the garlic afterwards. That would be just icky. I don’t actually expect pimples to start growing in your stomach, but still…eww!
Another thing you can use on your face is a simple mixture of water and lemon juice, half and half. Wash your face (you get told to wash your face an awful lot when you have pimples, don’t you?), then paint this mixture on your face and leave it on for half an hour. Of course, any time you’re told to leave something on your face for an extended period of time, it’s a good idea to try it for a shorter period on a small section of skin first to be sure it won’t irritate the skin. Still, that probably isn’t much of a risk with lemon juice, and I certainly hope you’re not allergic to water! Once it’s done, wash it off with cold water. (Why cold instead of hot? I have no idea. Just do it!)
And of course, there’s always the toothpaste method, which is the same as the lemon juice method except you use toothpaste instead. Be careful with this one, as toothpaste can really dry out your skin! Use white toothpaste, not gel, and definitely avoid mint-flavored toothpaste, or you may feel like your face was eaten by some strange bug with a taste for mint! The toothpaste will dry out your skin, so you’ll want to avoid leaving it on for two long (unless you like the feel of a sandpapery face) and use some lotion after you clean it off. Whatever you do, don’t leave your face covered with toothpaste for the weekend!
Finally, throw an ice pack on it to reduce any swelling and you’re good to go. Until the next outbreak, that is.
