Fish Oil Benefits

Lately, you may have been hearing a lot about fish oil benefits and why taking  fish oil supplements is so important to your health.  The truth is that each cell within your body needs these healthy fats in order to function properly.   Because your body cannot produce Essential Fatty Acids, getting them from food and supplementation is absolutely critical.  You can get these Omega 3’s from chia seeds, flaxseeds, hemp seeds and walnuts, but by far fish oil is the best natural source.  Let’s take a look at some of the key fish oil benefits so that you can better understand why taking it is such a good idea.

Most people think of inflammation as what happens when you slam your finger in the door.  While that certainly is one type of inflammation, chronic inflammation is another issue all together.  It is a slow, silent killer that we now know is the root cause for countless diseases.  Inflammation starts with the immune system.  What happens is that at times your system gets a distress signal such as what would happen if you were injured.  The challenge?  If you are not injured the inflammation can still hang out for a long time.  When this happens over time damage occurs to your organs.

Evidence now suggests that inflammation is one of the root causes of most chronic disease, especially heart disease.  It can also lead to genetic changes that ultimately end up in cancer.  In addition to exercise and eating your fruits and vegetables, one of the top ways that you can combat inflammation within the body is by getting enough Omega -3 essential fatty acids like fish oil.

Heart Health

According to the American Heart Association, taking Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids is one of the best steps that you can take to ensure your heart health.  They are known to reduce your blood pressure by a slight but significant amount.  One of the key benefits of fish oil is its ability to reduce your risk of arrhythmias and ultimately sudden cardiac death.  Other cardiovascular benefits of fish oil pills include lower triglyceride levels and a lower growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque.

Weight Control

Fish oil weight loss – too good to be true?  Maybe not! Without enough EFAs in your diet, chances are you are going to start to crave foods that are high in fat.  However, evidence suggests that fish oil benefits extend beyond this.  In one study reported in the International Journal of Obesity, it was discovered that fish oil supplements actually work to increase the metabolism in the body.  The study found that those who took 1.8 grams of fish oil supplements each day burned 25% more fat than those who were not taking the fish oil.

Youthful Appearance

As if all this were not enough, many people believe that another key fish oil benefit is that it can help you retain a youthful appearance longer.

With all of these health benefits, you can see why taking the best fish oil is a good idea!
